VAT on RFP - Do you quote in or ex tax?

Modified on Fri, 21 Mar at 3:10 PM

This guide’s all about figuring out how agents set their commission in enquiries and how you should quote back. Let’s make it simple!

How Agents Pick Commission
When agents send an enquiry, they decide if their commission includes tax or not. They tell you this with a little icon in the RFP charges table:
- A star (*): No tax yet (before VAT).
- A cross (✝): Tax included (after VAT).

What Those Icons Tell You
- * (Star): They want commission on the price before VAT—like £100 without tax.
- ✝ (Cross): They want it on the total with VAT—like £100 + £20 = £120.

Your Job: Match Their Choice
Look at the RFP for that * or ✝. You can’t change if it’s inc or ex tax—that’s set by the agent. Just:
- See a *? Quote without VAT, commission on the pre-tax amount.
- See a ✝? Quote with VAT, commission on the full price.
Stick to what they’re asking for!

Tweaking the Commission Rate
You can’t switch the tax part, but you can adjust the commission percentage:
- The commission field in the RFP is editable—change the rate if you want.
- Or reply to the agent, like “Hey, can we do 10% instead?” They’ll fix it on their end.
